It’s a Fake

One of the biggest abilities at the top level in tennis is the disguise of a shot.

Not only you can hide the intended target, but also mislead the opponent into starting the wrong way.

Because the modern groundstroke is across the ball rather than forward it is easier to fake with upper body moves or positioning the likes of a crosscourt, down the line or inside out-shot

All you need is last-minute subtle changes of racquet angle which combined with a well timed cross-pull of the racquet will give you the desired result.

Once your opponent is wary of your tricks, you’ll have him more thoughtful and you have slowed him down.
