MTM (Modern Tennis Methodology) Certified Coaches

How to become certified as an MTM Academy of Coaches Member (click here)

Message to all coaches or prospective coaches from Oscar Wegner:

Over the years I have received requests from coaches who teach using my techniques to have certification procedures. I am authorizing, for that purpose, a coaching organization called Modern Tennis Methodology (MTM) to be administered under the direction of John Carpenter, the current Director of Certification and Testing.

This coaching organization will fill a void at the grassroots level for simple and easy Play Like the Pros tennis instruction.

Coaches already certified by other organizations are welcome as well.

The certification will have an exam to be passed with an 80% minimum, with an instruction on those failed points and a chance to take a new exam. The annual membership fee, which includes the exam, will be $50. This year's membership will be valid until December 31st, 2008.

For those coaches in the USA, this organization will arrange liability insurance through the US High School Tennis Association (USHSTA) at an additional cost of $20 per calendar year.

Best regards, Oscar Wegner

John Carpenter, Director of Certification, with Oscar Wegner

John Carpenter, formerly Encino CA, now at O'Fallon, IL.

MTM Pro, PTR Pro Certified. MTM Tester.

John brings a wide body of tennis theory which he experimented with over the last twenty years. Upon converting to MTM and testing it versus other theories, he noticed players using MTM developed much faster, especially when it was not mixed with conventional data. He had such success he was hired by Andy Davis (now at Newcombe’s Academy) to bring MTM to the famous clay courts of Triple A Tennis Club in Forest Park. John and Andy spent countless hours with Oscar on court studying how to teach anyone to Play Like the Pros. He then served as Head Pro at Dwight Davis Tennis Center and was the O’Fallon, IL Parks and Rec Tennis Director where he started the kids off right from the start with MTM. If you don’t see instant results in a lesson, you don’t pay him.

Susan Nardi , Manhattan Beach, PTR Tester/Clinician, USPTA1, MTM Tester/Pro

Susan with Oscar

Manhattan Beach (6 miles south of LAX) and also teaches in Irvine.
Susan has been coaching at every level for 23 years.  Considered an expert on munchkin tennis, she has written articles and speaks nationally on the subject.  Professional accomplishments include:  USPTR national Tester, 2000 USPTA California High School Coach of the Year, assistant women's tennis coach at Virginia Tech, head coach of the Capistrano Valley High School team making CIF quarterfinals each year, and Junior Pee Wee Tennis Instructor at Riviera Country Club.  Susan teaches at Homestead in Irvine, Ca.suznardi@yahoo.com or cell: 310-529-4834.

To Susan Nardi, MTM Pro: "By playing tennis with an open stance I have eliminated all physical pain and improved my overall efficiency on the court.  Before I used to have shoulder, lower back and right knee pain; the “turn-sideways” stance put a lot of pressure on these key body parts and joints.  Now I hit with an open-stance.  This way of playing insures that none of my body parts or joints are supporting an undue amount of stress or pressure.  This is a natural way of moving!  My energy level and efficiency on the tennis court has improved also.  Because this is a more natural way of moving I get to the ball quicker and have better balance which results in a more efficient tennis game.  Before I used to get tired, exerting so much extra energy, now tennis is fun and easy and I play better than I ever have before."  Nicola Mazer, Costa Mesa, CA

Jeanette-Triniti Bhaguandas (known as Triniti)

Triniti was born in London, England. Growing up a Junior Tennis star, she represented Great Britain in numerous Internationals, ranked #2 in the Country from the age of 10 to 16. She then went on to earn a four year NCAA Tennis scholarship to SDSU, graduating Valedictorian in Kinesiology. With an NCAA national ranking of #13 in Doubles and #65 in Singles, Triniti won the deciding match to take home the WAC Conference Championship for SDSU.

Currently residing in Sherman Oaks, CA, Triniti teaches children and adults of all ages and all levels. On court she is full of energy and encouragement and pays great attention to each Individual player.

He’s been a certified USTA Official since 2001 and in 2002 and 2003, he helped direct twenty thousand kids in the largest school tennis promotion in the nation for Beginners World Tennis but noticed a few years later most of the kids had quit tennis. In 2005, he went to work for Dwight Davis Tennis Center to learn MTM as an instructor where he spent teaching an entire summer under Oscar Wegner. He has worked with Oscar extensively and also attended two US Open Tennis Teaching Conferences as Oscar’s guest. He has taught MTM in the St. Louis area and at O’Fallon Illinois Parks and Rec Program with John Carpenter where they took a small program and exploded it with great success their first year. He taught tennis for a private girls school in St. Louis and helped the school earn a top four state finish in his two years there before leaving to spend a winter in California spreading MTM with Oscar Wegner and John Carpenter. He founded a free Tips 4 Tennis outreach program to get people to take a second look at tennis given MTM proves how easy it is to play well. He keeps it simple and easy to learn to play well.

Rachel Gibson, Albuquerque , NM , MTM

Rachel learned to play tennis in her 30's from the Wegner method.  Within the first year she was able to play with people who had been playing since childlhood and was then offered a coaching position at a local high school.  After the first season of coaching, the parents and school were so impressed with the results she has now been asked to be head coach for the 2008 season.  She became certified as a MTM instructor in the summer of 2007 and began giving private lessons.  One of her adult private lesson students says, "I had never played tennis in my life before taking lessons with Rachel.  After just a handful of lessons, I had a strong forehand, backhand, and serve.  I can now play with and beat friends who've been playing for years!"  Rachel teaches private lessons in the Albuquerque, NM area and loves teaching players of all ages  For more information, check out her tennis website at www.tennisabq.com or email her at info@tennisabq.com

Jorge Aguirre , Monsey, NY, MTM Pro, USPTA1

Jorge runs the tennis program at the LifePlex Health and Tennis Club in Monsey, NY. One of Argentina’s top players before going into coaching, he now works closely with Oscar Wegner who calls Jorge an “expert in Modern Tennis.” During the 80's he traveled Europe learning from great instructors like Jose Higueras in Valencia, Spain. During the 90's Jorge taught at the Quest Tennis Academy, the second largest academy in the east coast, then became Director at Pascack Tennis Center before taking over at LifePlex. He coaches actors, actresses and many junior, college and satellite players such as Carl Thorson, Dany Opici, Kristie Ahn, (current #1 USTA ranked girl in 14’s), and developed Jenna Max Hopman, Alsey Globerman, and hundreds of players that today are playing division one college and Varsity Tennis in their high schools. His passion for the game is apparent in his high energy level and his ability to "connect you to the game". Jorge says “I know modern tennis, the way Oscar Wegner described in his books, works. I have been teaching modern tennis for 20 years and no one ever left my court without the experience of their life, and capturing with their body the beautiful game of tennis.” Email: jorge19@mac.com.
